BIOGRAPHY

I graduated from the Honors College at George Mason University earning a B.A. in Anthropology with double minors in Spanish and theater performance. I chose anthropology as my major because I wanted to understand how other cultures function--how they remember and organize; communicate and learn; how they think and what they believe. Anthropology also taught me how to view others from their perspectives and that is where my minor in theater performance comes into play. As a graduate student, director, and actor, I want to learn how to prepare and execute messages to large audiences based on the cultural knowledge I've gained in anthropology.

Let's face it: the arts, whether film, theater, music or crafts, are all manifestations of our individual and collective memories. It matters to me that productions represent the most authentic cultural experience possible and that takes training on how to identify, document and act-out the key characteristics, in an intentional way that both honors and respects the community.

From my cultural community to the ones I observed in Spain, Suriname and the Department of State, I have experienced the richness of each group's own unique way of living.  It is just the beginning for me but I am determined to continue looking for opportunities that humanize the cultures I study to better inform the way I re-share their stories.
